Santa Maria street
It was one of the first streets in Guimarães since it served as the link between the monastery founded by countess Mumadona, which was located in the lower town, and the castle, situated in the upper town. There are references to this street in documents dating from the 12th century.
It presently links Oliveira Square to Carmo Square and during this path one can find various architectonic examples of the past: Santa Clara Monastery, The house of the arch, Peixoto's house and the Gothic house of Valadares; and many others that give it an unique identity and special characteristics in Guimarães.

A street which seems quite calm, I am astonished not to see anybody

Hi
bergson, yes if you enlarge the photo you'll see a few people.. I waited some time to get the street "empty" for a clean shot :)
Cheers
It's amazing, but whenever I post a beautiful photo of a great looking street empty of people there's always someone who will take the time to remark how empty/deserted the street looks. It never fails.
I too will patiently wait to get a clean shot, so I can totally commiserate. Sigh... ;)
eh eh eh... LOL
yes, i sometimes wait too long for the people to go away from my pictures.. i like shooting empty streets; aparently bergson likes them crowded :)
